Transition Crouch End

Moving together to life beyond oil

We believe that a strong local economy and skills base are the best way to meet the twin challenges of peak oil and climate change.

Crouch End's Very Own Farm!

This Thursday is the start of a very special food box scheme. Several of us are having meat and veg boxes delivered directly from a farm in Hertfordshire where we know the farmer, the plants and the animals!
The food (which is at supermarket prices) is part of a community supported agriculture (CSA) scheme. This means we know where our food comes from and we can give something back through workdays and visits.

If you would like to be part of this scheme, you can sign up at

Update on Plastic Bag Free Crouch End

We met to discuss a new campaign for a Plastic Bag Free Crouch End last
night. Azul-Valerie Thome, Andrew Thornton, Norman Beddington,
Charlotte Thompson and myself were there. We all feel the best way
forward is a partnership between the Crouch End Project (ie traders'
association) and Transition Crouch End. Who else in Transition Crouch
End is interested in getting involved? Let us know if you are. The next

All transition crouch enders are invited to Stoke Newington's Transition open space event on 15th May....

As a bit of a prequel to that, on May 10 from 6.30 - 9.30pm Roma Iskander, who's part of the group organising the above event, is organising a 'Be The Change' symposium: "a profound inquiry into how we might realise a bold vision: an environmentally sustainable, socially just and spiritually fulfilling human presence on earth". More details are at http://www.london-transition.org.uk/events/roma.jpg and… Continue

A comment on my comment!

I think we should err on the side of caution. My area of interest is of course to protect the wildflowers and their pollinators but there are other questions that need answering such as why bio-tech companies produce GM crops whose seed cannot be germinated. Farmers are forced to buy new seed every year. How will this help world poverty or the world's food problems?

GM Crops in Europe

The EC has just allowed GM crops into Europe, ignoring the concerns of

the public. I've signed a petition for independent research and a

moratorium on GM crop development. With 1 million citizens' signatures,

we can make an official legal request to the European Commission. Sign

below and let's get to 1 million:

Haringey Bio-Diversity Action Plan

Haringey Biodiversity Action Plan

Executive Summary
January 2010

Foreword

Due to the effects of human activity there exists an unprecedented and ongoing worldwide loss of biodiversity, and in recognition of this and the importance the natural environment plays in maintaining human health the United Nations has declared 2010 International Year of Biodiversity (IYOB).

The significance of biodiversity upon our lives often goes unnoticed or is taken for granted, b
